RHEA JACOBS

Creative, Expressive and Passionate – that’s how Rhea Jacobs describes herself. We meet Rhea, an artist, BA Fashion honors graduate and a blogger who shares her  thoughts on  Fashion, Art and Culture on RJACOBSTHEBLOG. She tells D-journal all about being an influencer in Dubai, her last trip to Armenia, the role of Bob Marley and herbal tea in her life.

Your mum accompanied you during the shoot, you’ve also mentioned previously that your first beauty memory was watching her dress up for work when you were 5-6 years old. Is she a big influence in your life and in what way?
Absolutely! She’s the reason Rhea Jacobs turned into RJacobs. I always envisioned what I wanted to be, My mother helped me turn that into reality, she’s the one person who believed in my dreams since the get go and has been my anchor ever since. My mother is my mirror, be it for my life choices, decisions, reality checks or even simple style advice.
I grew up watching her be a strong, independent and empowered woman. We inherited these qualities from my Grandmother who is trail blazer, a true career woman! She was a Gazetted officer for the government in her time. That’s my biggest influence in everything I do. You can see my mother in my work and that’s how I want it to be.

You graduated with a BA Honors in Fashion Design. Do you see your career steering into apparel design?
Currently, I enjoy translating my creativity through Art and content creation. I design and make a lot of my outfits too. Now, will this evolve into a brand well Que cera cera?

It must be elating to be recognised and appreciated by your followers. Does it make you feel like seasoned star?

Honestly, I feel an immense sense of gratitude for all the love and support. As far as feeling like a star, I’m just here to do what I love, grow and perfect it with time and by God’s Grace the appreciation and support I receive is a blessing.

How did it all begin? Do you remember your first blogging experience?
It began last October; I had just graduated a 4-year course in Fashion and I was at a point where I needed to express my creativity through art without any limitations. I can still recall the day I was browsing through some magazines and thought to myself “What if I could translate Art through fashion and beauty?”  The very day I sat my parents down and both of them loved the idea. I purchased a camera right away and taught my mom how to use it and  we’ve been shooting ever since. I transformed my personal instagram account with a mere 200 followers into Therjacobs (you can still see some of my old personal photos, I wanted to leave it so my followers could see my evolution).

How much time do you spend online daily?
Since my work involves a lot of digital content, emails and communications it’s safe to say, I spent a lot of time online.

How would you describe your personality in three words?
Creative, Expressive and Passionate about my craft.

What role does colors, art and painting play in your life?
They mean everything! I majored in Fine arts and business studies for my A Levels. I constantly felt a link with art and life. Art is my outlet, whenever I get a creative block the first thing I do is paint. Its like my charger.

Where do you draw inspiration from while creating a look?
Colors and aesthetics are key when it comes to planning a look.  When designing my outfits I am constantly inspired by organic shapes. I recently designed an organza coat where the sleeves were inspired by the shape of a rose. My creative process contains three steps: observation, inspiration and execution. I’m inspired by various aspects like nature, art and architecture.

If you could do anything you wanted in life without keeping the money aspect in mind, what would you do?
I would like to help people through my work, we’re at the highest point of globalization and communication since the beginning of time . But the one thing that needs to go around most is aid and resources to countries in need. Simple things like food, water, healthcare and education, I truly want to make a difference in this light. Ever since I was a child I wanted to travel to countries and make a difference but I wanted to do so with my earned money. So, that’s my goal, to earn enough to make a difference.

Being a beauty blogger and influencer, can you narrate an instance when you realized you actually influenced someone?
I receive a lot of sweet messages from my followers but the most memorable would have to be a high school student I met at a talk where I was the guest speaker. She walked up to me and said how I’ve made her embrace her individuality and follow her dreams. And that to me meant a lot because I always stress, “No matter who you are or where you’re from, you can achieve your dreams“.

What was the last book you read?
    Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

What music do you usually listen to while driving?
The king, one and only BOB MARLEY. Not a lot of people know this but my playlist always has more old school music than commercial on trend ones. Right from ACDC to Sinatra. But nothing makes me happier than listening to a little reggae

How does a regular day in Rhea’s life look like?
My day begins around 7 am, the first thing I do is check my emails then hit the shower and finally skincare. Next, I run down to feed my cat and dog and grab breakfast with a cup of herbal tea. After which I respond to my emails and finally head out to shoot. If I’m not shooting I’m either at meetings or working on something creative like planning mood boards, painting, designing or sourcing fabric. I’m currently working on an Art Series collection so I spend a lot of time painting.
Regular social media checks and researching inspiration for the following content through the day go without saying. Evenings usually involve walks with my dog, a short run around the lake next to my house, dinner with family, skincare then bed.

Are you an early bird or a night owl?
    Night Owl all the way!

Where and with whom do you prefer to travel?
I love to travel to places rich in history and culture. I love travelling with family. I’m the only child so my parents and I share a beautiful relationship and they’re more friends than parents to me ha-ha.

Tell us about your last trip…
I was in the beautiful countryside of Armenia a few days ago and it was magical. The country is rich in history and so picturesque it’s unreal. I spent the whole trip trekking, camping, picking fruits at the vineyard and farms & exploring this majestic land. I’ve never felt so energized and refreshed.

What will be your next destination?
New York, however it will be a work related trip to shoot the next series of content with Marc Jacobs Beauty.

Is there any sport you would like to try?
I would love to try Archery, I’ve always been fascinated by that sport.

Do you enjoy cooking? What is your favorite cuisine?
Lets not go there ha-ha, some people were meant to cook, I was meant to EAT! I love trying out new cuisines. But my favorite has to be Thai, although I’m currently obsessed with Korean Kimchi.

If you could pick only three beauty products for your bag, what would they be?
My Marc Jacobs Beauty gloss in shade “Boom”, MJB Fine liner in shade “Big eyes“ and the MJB finishing powder to blot during the day.

What is the most important piece of beauty advice from Rhea Jacob?
Moisturize and hydrate, it’s the simplest thing but it’ll make a worlds difference.

What is your favorite place in Dubai?
I love driving down Sheikh Zayed road. I remember as a child I watched it change and grow each time I passed by. It reminds me that nothing is impossible, I constantly take inspiration from this city I call home.

How do you prefer to spend your weekends?
If I’m not working, Thursdays usually involves catching up with my dear girlfriends over a cup of coffee and taking my dog for a long walk. I make it a point to spend time with my English bulldog, Roxy as I feel with work I barely get time with her. Fridays are always for family brunches and camping trips.

My mom is my best friend but I’ve been blessed with the most amazing girlfriends.

To leave a prominent mark in the fashion and beauty industry through my work where I will no longer have to introduce myself.
