Dubai Mallathon
Dubai has long been a city that refuses to let the seasons dictate its lifestyle. When summer temperatures make outdoor exercise difficult, the city does not simply move indoors. It reimagines the spaces it already has.
That thinking is behind the return of the Dubai Mallathon, an initiative transforming some of Dubai’s most recognisable shopping destinations into indoor walking and running tracks.
Running from 15 June to 15 September 2026, the second edition of Dubai Mallathon has expanded into a three-month citywide initiative following the success of its inaugural edition in 2025. Six major malls are opening their doors every morning from 6am to 10am, giving residents and visitors access to air-conditioned spaces where they can walk, run and stay active throughout the summer. Participation is free and open to everyone. (dubaimallathon.ae)
The participating malls are City Centre Deira, City Centre Mirdif, Dubai Festival City, Dubai Hills Mall, Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates. Dedicated routes have been introduced across the destinations, alongside organised races and distances including 2.5km, 5km and 10km events at selected locations. (dubaimallathon.ae)

But the significance of Dubai Mallathon extends beyond exercise.
Shopping malls are among the most familiar spaces in Dubai. They are places where people eat, meet, shop and spend time with family. By turning them into accessible fitness destinations before regular shopping hours, the initiative introduces physical activity into spaces that are already part of everyday life.
It also reflects a wider shift in how Dubai approaches urban wellbeing. Rather than separating fitness from daily routines, initiatives such as the Mallathon attempt to make movement more convenient and accessible to people of different ages and fitness levels.
The initiative was launched under the directives of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and forms part of Dubai’s broader efforts to improve public health, wellbeing and quality of life. It also aligns with the ambitions of the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033, which aims to strengthen the city’s position as one of the world’s leading destinations in which to live and work.
The scale of the initiative has grown considerably since its introduction. The inaugural Dubai Mallathon in 2025 attracted more than 40,000 participants and achieved a Guinness World Record for the largest mall run event, helping establish the concept as more than a temporary summer fitness campaign.
Now extended across three months, Dubai Mallathon demonstrates something increasingly characteristic of the city: the ability to rethink existing infrastructure around the changing needs of its population.
In a city known for building new landmarks, perhaps one of Dubai’s most interesting ideas is learning how to use the spaces it already has differently.
Dubai Mallathon is not simply about running through shopping centres before the stores open. It is about making movement part of everyday city life — and finding new ways to keep Dubai active, connected and moving, regardless of the season.
